Tic Tac Toe Reading Program

For Teachers and Parents :

The purpose of the Tic-Tac-Toe Reading Program is to encourage reading non-fiction books, as well as many genres of fiction books while providing the student with some responsibility for the completion of each square. We have changed the requirements for the program. Students no longer have to complete the Connection Activities for each book. I will leave them connected in case they would like to complete them, but they are no longer a requirement.

It includes a set of Connection Activities for reading/writing and technology from which the student will choose when a book is completed. Directions for these activities will be on the checklist behind each square.
These Connection Activities are designed to provide differentiation for learning abilities and interests of the students.
Books should be on the student's reading level or slightly above to provide a challenge.

Object of the Game :

Students complete a row (vertically, horizontally, and diagonally) on their Tic-Tac-Toe Reading Board Card by reading a book from each of the genres in the row and taking an AR test on the book. Students must turn in the AR test results to the Library Media Center's Tic Tac Toe Basket with their first AND LAST name on the form, their homeroom teacher's name, along with the name of the genre square they are completing.

Completing two worksheet activities and one online activity for each square in their row are no longer a requirement. To find out which activities a student may complete for each book if they would like an additional challenge, click on the tic-tac-toe square for the checklist for that square. The checklist, activities, worksheets and AR test results may be turned in to the Library Media Center in the Tic-Tac-Toe basket for each individual book/square at the same time.

After any row is completed, the student will be added to the Tic-Tac-Toe Reading Wall in the Curtis Library Media Center and students will receive a prize. If 2 rows are completed, students will receive a special t-shirt. If 3 rows are completed, the student will receive a luncheon in the Curtis Library Media Center with 2 of their friends that have completed at least 1 row of Tic-Tac-Toe. They will also have a book dedicated to them in the Curtis Library Media Center.
